About the fade haircut

What is a fade haircut?

A fade is a haircut where the hair on the sides and back gradually shortens until it nearly disappears at the bottom. The point where the fade starts is what defines the style: low, mid, high, or drop. The longer length on top can be styled any way — slicked, textured, swept, or natural.

Low fade, mid fade, high fade, drop fade

A low fade starts at the ear or just above — subtle, professional. A mid fade starts at the temple — the most popular, balanced look. A high fade starts above the temple — bolder, more contrast. A drop fade curves down behind the ear — modern, photographic. Pick by face shape, hair length on top, and how bold you want it.

Skin fade vs fade — what's the difference?

Both are tapered cuts. A 'fade' usually leaves a fine layer of hair at the lowest point (clippers on the lowest guard). A 'skin fade' goes all the way to bare skin with a razor pass at the bottom. If you want the cleanest look, ask for a skin fade. If you want softer at the edges, ask for a fade.

Frequently asked.

What should I tell my barber for a fade?

Three things: fade height (low, mid, high, or drop), how short you want the lowest point (a few millimetres or to the skin), and what you want on top (a number/length, a style reference, or 'just clean it up'). If you're not sure, show a photo — it's faster than describing it.

What's a fade vs a taper?

A fade involves a clear gradient down to very short or skin at the bottom. A taper is a much subtler shortening of the hair at the natural hairline — often barely visible without close inspection. Tapers are more conservative; fades are more contemporary.

How much is an average haircut in Melbourne?

Around $45–$80 across most CBD and inner-suburb barbershops. At Sina Blendz a fade haircut is from $55, with skin fades and longer cuts from $60.

How long does a fade haircut last?

A fade looks its sharpest for the first two weeks, then softens. Most regulars come back every 2–3 weeks. If you let it grow out 4+ weeks the fade blends out completely — which is sometimes the look you want for a 'between cuts' phase.

Do you take walk-ins?
